Initiative Program
Initiative Program for Fiscal 2017(Not open to the general public.)
Program Objectives
The purpose of this program is to discover projects that can facilitate the development of future grant programs of the Toyota Foundation. The application process is closed to the public and the
Foundation makes grants, occasionally by co-funding with other organizations, for projects which
contribute to developing the nonprofit sector, including strengthening the infrastructures of NPOs.
Under this program, the Foundation also provides grants to projects in which private foundations
can have considerable significance at its own discretion.
Great East Japan Earthquake
Three years on from its inception, the Foundation believes that “Great East Japan Earthquake” has completed its role in supporting community activities at public housing for reconstruction, given that local governments have started similar subsidy programs to support housing for people in disaster areas and only 10 projects were proposed for fiscal 2016.
For fiscal 2017, therefore, the Foundation will provide grants to research projects to review and assess the impacts of our past program. The projects, chosen at the Foundation's discretion and without proposal solicitation, will help prepare for more effective response to future disasters as well as identify community issues that remain six years after the Great East Japan Earthquake.
