" Japanese International NGOs Working Towards a Symbiotic Society in Asia - Our Experiences and Appeals - " came out (Communication with Society Program).
update：August 27, 2015
This publication came out as a result of the project titled the same by the Toyota Foundation’s 2013 Communication with Society Program, represented by Mr. Michio Ito from the NGO Council on the Prospects for the Future of Asia. The council was born from among the Japanese international NGOs participating in the workshops organized by the Toyota Foundation during the Foundation’s 2012 Asian Neighbors Program Special Purpose Grant: Prospects for the Future.
12 member organizations of the Council selected three themes to make appeals to society; 1) water, 2) community development, and 3) partnership. For each theme, a sub-group was formed to conduct activities, and in order to present an overall summarization, a symposium titled “Japanese International NGOs Working Towards a Symbiotic Society in Asia – Our Experiences and Appeals –” was held on February 6, 2015.
Some of member organizations have decades of experiences as pioneers of Japanese international cooperation. The Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011 opened opportunities to utilize their experience and skills in domestic activities. It could be said that international cooperation NGOs in Japan are facing one of their turning points now. Although the project period has been limited in one year, it seemed this project provided them a considerable number of new discoveries which leads to further network and communications of civil society organizations in Japan and Asia.
PDF version of the booklet is also downloadable at JANIC website.
