This book came out as a result of the project titled “The Architecture of Mon Buddhist Monasteries in Lower Burma”, supported by the Foundation’s 2004 Southeast Asian Studies Regional Exchange Program.

The aim of this project is to study the architecture of Mon Buddhist monasteries erected in the villages of Moulmein, Kado, and Kawnat in Lower Burma
during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, and this book is the result of those researches.
