q What kinds of project are eligible for grant funding?
a This program provides grants to projects that aim to create societies in which residents can support one another in life and living by having people make the most of the human networks and natural resources around them to solve problems they face as a community.

q Please describe any necessary conditions for applicants to fulfill, such as corporate standing.
a There are no limitations concerning corporate standing. However, the objectives and activities of groups applying for grants must be free of political, religious, or ideological bias and must not in any way be exclusive or designed for personal profit.

q Can the purchase of products such as a vehicle for disabled persons be covered by a grant?
a Projects whose main purpose is the purchase of commercial goods are not eligible for a grant.

q Should any documentation besides the application form be submitted during the screening process?
a According to selection criteria, grant recipients are chosen by the Selection Committee for the Grant Program for Community Activities, composed of outside specialists and chaired by Professor Yasuhide Nakamura of the Osaka University. The names of other selection committee members are not made public. Although the selection process is fundamentally based on the application materials, applicants may be requested to submit further information regarding their application or be interviewed as deemed necessary by the selection committee.

q Are there any restrictions on how grants may be spent?
a There are no particular restrictions. Personnel and administrative costs are permitted.

q Can I request a continuation of my grant?
a Yes. Extensions are granted one year at a time and require reapplication each year. A project completion report must be submitted along with an extension application in order to evaluate past accomplishments.

q Please tell me more about the obligations that receiving a grant entails.
a Upon the conclusion of a grant period, an account of project expenses and a completion report must be submitted. Although not required, grant recipients may be asked to participate in research-report presentations and symposiums or to contribute to the Toyota Foundation newsletter.

q What scale of network does the term "broad network" refer to?
a Several areas fall under this term. For example, activities that occur within a single prefecture but target multiple areas are eligible for application, as well as projects and activities that span two or more prefectures.

q Can grants be used to fund projects that generate revenue?
a Projects designed for personal profit are not eligible for grants, but it is permissible to use grants to fund projects that will generate revenue, provided that the money earned is returned to the community in which the project is taking place.
